Nature's Eats Macadamia Nuts are one of those exotic nuts that can really take a dish to the next level. They go well with fish like halibut and sea bass, as well as with tofu. Fish and tofu are some of many great protein sources, and macadamia nuts provide protein and healthy fats as well. When using macadamia nuts in cooking you can either use them in a savory dish like we did with this Macadamia Nut Crusted Tofu, or you can go in the other direction and use them in sweet recipes.

  1. Macadamia Coconut Crust

    • Preheat oven to 350°F. Place Nature's Eats Macadamia Nuts and Nature's Eats Shredded Coconut in a small baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes. Set aside and let cool.
    • Place roasted nuts and coconut plus all remaining ingredients into a Vitamix, using the dry container. Run on level 2-4 to finely chop everything into a salsa-like texture. Set aside.

  2. Creamy Tahini Sauce

    • Whisk all ingredients in a bowl, or place in a Vitamix machine and completely liquefy on highest speed for 1-2 minutes. Set aside.

  3. Macadamia Crusted Tofu

    • Place soy sauce and water in a 9x13 inch dish. Add tofu steak and allow to set for 5 minutes before flipping over to the other side.
    • Pour the Creamy Tahini Sauce on tofu steaks, fully covering both sides. Allow to marinate for at least 20 minutes, or overnight.
    • Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the tofu steaks into the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
    • Remove tofu from the oven and flip the steaks over. Reapply sauce where needed on the new side and return to oven for another 5 minutes.
    • Remove tofu from oven and top the steaks with Macadamia Coconut Crust mixture. Place back into oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.

The texture of this entree is like a steak, perfect for the vegetarian or meat eater. The taste of the tahini marinade is very flavorful and has a little spicy kick. Choosing a different nut butter in place of tahini can really change the flavor of the dish. The crunch from the crust of the nuts and coconut is delightful. The hints of cilantro with the toasted flavor take your taste buds on a surprising journey.
